Obviously, you want to keep your fire pit out of the rain and covered or at least covered if moving it out of the rain is out of the question.  Second, wiping any moisture off of the fire after a heavy rain or after the sprinklers past by it will also help keep the metal from oxidizing.  Practicing these simple maintenance tips will definitely extend the life of your fire pit.

So maybe your fire pit already has rusted and you are wanting to get it back to looking ship shape.  A simple fix is to take a trip over to your local hardware store and by some fine grit sand paper. The packaging on the sand paper will usually tell you what it is best suited for, e.g. metal, wood, etc. Then make your way over to the aisle with spray paint and find some black paint that will with stand high temperatures, i.e. high heat paint. Sand the rust off and paint over the areas you just sanded.  This is an easy and an affordable way to fix up the ol’ pit. Of course if you happen to have an electric sander this will prevent a sore shoulder for us older folks (as the kids like to say LOL).
